Chef Ponder to Graduate Second Class of Chefpreneurs
Virginia Beach, VA. International Celebrity Chef Jacoby Ponder recently completed the first installment of his Chefpreneur Academy hosted at Stratford University in Virginia Beach. The five-day course was provided to twenty Culinary Specialists from the USS Gerald R. Ford of the United States Navy.
On February 22-24, twenty Culinary Specialists from the United States Navy participated in the first ever Chefpreneur Academy training. The Chefpreneur Academy is a comprehensive curriculum developed by International Celebrity Chef, Jacoby Ponder. The mission of the Academy. is to educate, inspire and motivate cooks to become professional chefs; working, thriving and expanding their gifts and talents outside of the kitchen.
The week began with the class being separated into four teams and given a project challenge. The participants were then taught fundamental cooking techniques, culinary vocabulary, motivation, business management, marketing and more. Finally, on the last day each team presented their restaurant concepts to fellow sailors, the command of the ship and other high-ranking Navy officials. Also, each sailor received a graduation certificate and a special addition Chefpreneur apron.
Chef Jacoby Ponder, who spent ten years in the Navy as a Culinary Specialist, shared his feeling about working with the sailors. “I was beyond humbled to provide this training with for the sailors,” said Chef Ponder, “I was once one of them, I understand them and how they feel.” The event was spearheaded by Senior Chief Jewell Dyson CSCS (SW/AW) Leading Culinary Specialist (USS Gerald R. Ford), who sought out Chef Ponder to present the training to her command. “This project was very close to my heart. These guys really needed a boost and it meant the world to me to see them growing before my eyes and really connecting with Chef Ponder,” she said.
After the training was completed those who attended were so impressed with the results that the Chefpreneur Academy was secured for three more sessions for the remaining culinary specialists on the USS Gerald R Ford. “Since attending the Chefpreneur Academy I’ve noticed a renewed sense of pride in my Culinary Specialists,” said Dyson, “In fact, as soon as they returned to the ship, they showed ownership and represented the galley’s establishment like they owned it. The pride and professionalism they now show proves that we all need to be restored at times. Chef Ponder’s course provided just what was needed when it was needed the most, she added.”
The next Chefpreneur Academy will be held at Stratford University March 18-21 with graduation beginning on the 21st at 4 pm. The Commanding Officer of the USS Gerald R. Ford will attend the graduation among other ranking officers of the Navy. The next two academies will be held aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford in April and May of this year.
Chefpreneur Academy is not just for the Navy, however. Chef Ponder and his team of chefs, business coaches and motivators will be holding a Chefpreneur Academy that is open to the public later this spring. To stay informed, visit www.chefpreneuracademy.com or www.chefjacobyponder.com.
